September is National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an annual initiative led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and DC is proud to recognize September as Preparedness Month. Read Mayor Muriel Bowser's proclamation of National Preparedness Month here.
What is National Preparedness Month? Nationwide, the month of September serves as a reminder for residents and businesses to be prepared for disasters or emergencies because in an emergency, every second counts. In the District of Columbia, National Preparedness Month is sponsored by ReadyDC, the District of Columbia's personal preparedness campaign. The campaign aims to empower District residents and businesses to become better prepared for the threats and hazards the District faces.
This year, the general theme for NPM is focused on preparing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities for risks and disasters. Throughout the month of September, follow along with the District's preparedness efforts by using the hashtag #PreparedDC.
